Our History

Pauline Pauline

The seed was planted for Asa Hanna Kennels way back when I was only a child and was let loose in a kennel of German Shepherds....the dogs seemed to sense that I loved them and that I would do anything for them. Later as my father and mother chose a dog and then more did I become the nurse maid to the ones not eating well..hand feeding and loving. All grown up, married, I seemed to gravitate toward the litter theory as I had six children (please see about us)...and then still was searching to fill a void I knew only a dog or dogs could fill...going to the shows, exhibiting ....so my search began and I found the beautiful Siberian husky, which at one time, 16 Siberians lived with me and my family, then I went on search for a little dog and came upon a Schipperke, and loved them and showed them, but my quest was for more and then one day I saw THE DOG, a black and white photo of a Shiba Inu in DOG WORLD.

My quest began and in the spring of 1984, I found my first Shiba Inu...a Kuroichi of Rozansow double granddaughter....she was living with some Akita people right near me...they had her for about two years and could not train her or even get her on lead...she was in two kennelaire x-pens on top of each other so she could not climb out!!! After an exhaustive chase, she was mine and three weeks later, we went BEST IN SHOW three days in a row at the big Texas Rare Breed Shows and she was a champion, Asa Hanna Kennels were born .

She loved me to the depth of my soul...temperment that continues today in my lines.... I breed for that temperament, I breed true to the American standard with the best of Japanese qualities...I am proud to say that after 7 generations and finishing innumerable champions, we were able to breeder, owner, handle Ch. Asa Hanna Watch This...alias Beau to the #9 slot in 1999...and all the while he was my constant companion and good bed buddy!!!! We have finished shibas in three days (that is three five points majors in a row), we have multiple group placing shibas and now in May 2002 are the proud handler of Ch. Frerose Chattanooga Choo Choo, who as of May 2002 is the #1 All Breed Shiba (DOG NEWS) and #2 Breed Shiba. We have wonderful dogs, who are all arounders, who can be your companion, your best friend and a good show dog all at once!!! However, at Asa Hanna, we believe that the ultimate level for our dogs, is to be someone's pet, just to lay at their feet and bring the tennis ball. We give a complete contract to those who adopt their dogs from us, guarantees on eyes, hips and knees and any genetic problems....we also give rebates for those who will put an obedience title on their dogs. At Asa Hanna your puppy is greeted by their mothers warm tongue and loving human hands, they are raised in the house, with lots of human contact and training and your puppy DOES come with directions!!! As a behaviorist and obedience trainer, your puppy, young adult or adult will come complete with my written course as a courtesy.

Out of this so much has happened...I have children who now are professional handlers, kennels managers and now grandchildren showing in junior showmanship....We love all
breeds at Asa Hanna, but our shibas are the mainstay of our kennels and for that I am truly thankful to my father who had the foresight to purchase such beautiful dogs for us and to my mother, as she was always the ultimate cheerleader for the Asa Hanna Crew....may you enjoy all the dogs at the Rainbow Bridge Mom......I know they welcomed you, Mom, home on March 21, 2002 and you Dad on July 24, 2002....I know they are romping and playing with you each day...thanks for all your unfailing love and support!
